Why this spot

1859-1871 overland trail and fort town

Dobytown, officially Kearney City, grew from 1859 as an adobe outfitting and vice town three miles west of Fort Kearny, serving soldiers, freighters and emigrants and hosting a Pony Express station. The railroad cut trail traffic after 1869 and the town died when the Army abandoned the fort in 1871.View source →
