Why this spot

1916-1920s oil boomtown

Dilworth sprang up in late 1916 in the Blackwell or Dilworth oil field, reached by the Oil Fields Short Line Railroad, and grew to several thousand people with stores, a lumber yard, garage and its own newspaper. The boom faded fast; by the end of 1923 about 50 people were left, the railroad abandoned its line, and by 1929 it was counted among the county's ghost oil towns.View source →
