Why this spot

1864-1870 placer gold rush

Boomtown for Confederate Gulch, where the Montana Bar was one of the richest placer strikes per acre ever found; around 10,000 people worked the gulch in 1866 and it produced $19 to 30 million in gold. When the gold ran out in 1869 and 1870 residents simply left, with about 60 left by 1871 and four families in the 1880s.View source →
