Why this spot
1820s-1865 river ferry and trading town
Chalk Bluff grew from the 1820s where the St. Francis River cuts through Crowley's Ridge, with Abraham Seitz's ferry and store operating from 1830. Its crossing was fought over during the Civil War, including the Battle of Chalk Bluff in May 1863, and residents left after the war for the new railroad town of St. Francis.View source →
