Why this spot

1844-1921 mission academy and Choctaw capital

The town grew around Armstrong Academy, a mission school for Choctaw boys opened in 1844 with a trading post, blacksmith, church and gristmill spring, and it served as the Choctaw Nation capital from 1863 to 1883. After the capital moved to Tuskahoma the community declined, and the academy burned in 1921 and was never rebuilt.View source →
