Why this spot

1889-1928 company coal town

Coal town built by Kilpatrick Brothers and Collins for the Burlington railroad, with a hospital, school, three churches, two hotels, an opera house, a bank and about 150 miners' houses; the company paid in scrip and 'clacker' coins. The census counted 966 people in 1900, and the town was abandoned in 1928 when the seam thinned out.View source →
