Why this spot

1841-1860s gristmill and church community

Buck Snort began in 1841 around Joe Willey's gristmill on Buck Snort Hill, with Baptist and Methodist churches and a post office named Newport from 1852 to 1859. The community apparently ended during the Civil War, and by 1868, when militia fought the Ku Klux Klan there, only Willey's cotton gin was left.View source →
