Why this spot

1860s Pikes Peak gold-rush camp and county seat

Gold camp founded in 1860 as Laurette, Kansas Territory, on Buckskin Creek, serving as Park County seat from 1862 to 1867; claims of 5,000 residents are thought exaggerated. It faded as the placer and vein gold gave out, and its buildings were later hauled off to a tourist attraction.View source →
