Why this spot

about 1900-1905 iron furnace town

The Lookout Mountain Iron Company built a furnace and coke ovens here, with hundreds of houses, a school, commissary, hotel, post office and a piped spring water system. The ore could not compete with Birmingham, the furnace went on standby in 1905, and it was later sold and shipped to Calcutta.View source →
