Gaelic island community abandoned 1912
Bishop's Isles island settled for over two thousand years, with 52 people in 1764 rising to 150 in 1881 as families evicted from Barra moved in. Evacuation began in 1907 after boat losses and hardship, and the island was empty by 1912.View source →
