Why this spot
medieval hamlet to WWII evacuation
Remote downland hamlet on record from about 1100, made up of Norton and Balsdean farms, with a chapel later used as a barn. Its last residents were evacuated in the Second World War and the manor, cottages and chapel were shelled as artillery targets and never rebuilt.View source →
