Uis: Brandberg mineral stalls and tin-town

ROCKHOUNDING CLEAN DOCUMENTED

Where: Southwest Africa · Africa · approx. -21.22, 14.87 (vicinity only)

Why this spot: Rockhounding locality: tin-mining settlement since 1922 at the foot of Brandberg Mountain, today the roadside hub where Damaraland diggers sell Brandberg quartz, amethyst and tourmaline

What turns up: Brandberg amethyst and smoky quartz clusters, phantom quartz, schorl, cassiterite pieces from old tin days (buy from stalls)

Access: Clean.

Buying at the stalls and town shops is the clean lane; the tin mine and its tailings are again an active licensed operation (post-2010 restart) and are off-limits, and Brandberg itself is a national monument area
